A police certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a statement that you do not have a criminal record. Police certificates are different in each country and territory. They may be called police clearance certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts or other names.

The police certificate may contain the following information (vary for different countries): first and last name, date and place of birth, citizenship, date of check, information on existing (if any) criminal prosecutions, convictions, search warrants, etc.

police certificate translation

When do you need a police certificate translation? Many organizations require people to get criminal record or vulnerable sector checks for different reasons, some of which include employment, volunteer work, adoption, immigration or foreign travel, or name change.

If you are applying to come to Canada as a live-in caregiver, tourist, student or temporary worker, you (and all family members coming with you) may be asked to get one done but if you are applying for permanent residence, you (and all family members coming with you) definitely have to get one

Being a certified translator, I offer translations of police certificates from English to Russian and official translations of police certificates from Russian to English.

As I offer certified translation of police certificates, my clients often ask if my translations need to be further notarized. Many people do not understand the difference between certified and notarized translations. Here is a short explanation: certified translation does not need to be notarized unless there is a specific requirement by a requesting agency or organization. It is also important to realize that the notary public seal assures only that the signature is that of the person who presented him/herself to the notary — the notary public does not attest to the accuracy of the translation.
